“Now Garmr howls loud before Gnipahellir,
The fetters will burst, and the wolf run free.”
In Scandinavian mythology, Fenrir is large Jötunn in wolf form. The giant wolf was destined to fight with Odin when the Ragnarök begins. Fenrir is Loki’s child, conceived with giant Angrbeda.
Fenrir caused chaos in the Nine worlds, and Asas, the gods, decided to chain Fenrir. Fenrir bites Tyr’s hand as he chains this large wolf. Gnipahellir is a mystical cave where Fenrir is chained.
When the hellhound Garmr howls at the start of Ragnarök, Fenrir’s chains crack and the wolf is released.
